Larpocracy at Performing Space 2026: Exploring Democratic Spaces Through Performance

How can performance help us understand, experience and create democratic spaces?

Larpocracy member Alexandros Alexiou, from Larpifiers, presented findings from the project's Work Package 5 (WP5) at Performing Space 2026, an international symposium held in Nafplio, Greece.

Bringing disciplines together

Performing Space is an intimate international symposium dedicated to exploring the relationships between space and performance. Bringing together researchers, artists and practitioners from different disciplines, the event creates opportunities for dialogue, collaboration and interdisciplinary exchange.

Its distinctive format accommodates a wide range of presentations while leaving room for informal discussions, allowing participants to explore connections between their respective practices and research interests.

Exploring democratic spaces through Larpocracy

During the symposium, Alexandros presented findings from Larpocracy's WP5 research on democratic spaces, sharing the project's ongoing investigation into the relationship between participatory experiences, spatial design and democratic engagement.

The presentation generated considerable interest among attendees, who wanted to learn more about the research. Discussions also revealed connections between Larpocracy's investigation of democratic spaces and the artistic and academic practices of other symposium participants.

These exchanges offered an opportunity to consider democratic space from different disciplinary perspectives and to explore how the project's findings might inform other approaches to performance and participation.

Continuing the conversation

Participation in Performing Space 2026 provided Larpocracy with an opportunity to share its ongoing research beyond the consortium and engage with an international community interested in performance and spatial practices.

The conversations in Nafplio highlighted the relevance of interdisciplinary exchange to Larpocracy's investigation of democratic spaces, opening possibilities for further dialogue and collaboration.
