LARPOCRACY to Present at the 25th International Observatory on Participatory Democracy (OIDP) Conference
We are pleased to announce that Marcin Słowikowski has been selected to present a workshop at the 25th International Observatory on Participatory Democracy (OIDP) Conference, taking place in Kraków, Poland.
His proposal, "Fostering Skills in Democratic Deliberation through Live-Action Role-Playing Games (Larp)," was accepted following a highly competitive selection process. This year's call for proposals attracted more than 80 workshop and project showcase submissions, highlighting the growing international interest in innovative approaches to participatory democracy.
The workshop will introduce participants to the ways live-action role-playing (larp) can be used as a practical tool for strengthening democratic deliberation. By placing participants in carefully designed scenarios that require collaboration, negotiation and active listening, larp creates opportunities to experience multiple perspectives and practise respectful dialogue across differences. These embodied learning experiences align closely with LARPOCRACY's mission of exploring how playful and participatory methodologies can contribute to more resilient democratic cultures.
The International Observatory on Participatory Democracy (OIDP) Conference brings together researchers, policymakers, public institutions, civil society organisations and practitioners from around the world to exchange knowledge and explore new approaches to citizen participation and democratic innovation. As one of the leading international forums in the field, the conference provides an important platform for sharing research, methodologies and practical experiences that strengthen democratic participation.
Marcin's participation represents another opportunity for LARPOCRACY to contribute to international discussions on democratic innovation and to showcase the potential of role-playing methodologies beyond entertainment—as powerful tools for civic learning, deliberation and public engagement.
We congratulate Marcin on this achievement and look forward to sharing insights from the workshop following the conference.
